Hotaling & Co., formerly known as Anchor Distilling Company, 
has introduced a new interpretation of its Genevieve Dutch-style gin, the Barrel-Finished Genevieve Gin which is now available in major markets nationwide at the suggested retail price of $70.
Barrel-Finished Genevieve Gin (ABV 47.3%) is a malt-based spirit that is distilled with gin botanicals. At the Hotaling & Co. distillery on Potrero Hill in San Francisco, California, Barrel-Finished Genevieve Gin is double distilled in a small copper pot still from a mash of equal parts wheat, barley, and rye in the traditional “oude (old) jenever” style. This expression of genever (Dutch for juniper) style gin is matured for 33 months in once-used Old Potrero Straight Rye Whiskey barrels. The barrel aging process imparts a subtle golden color to the gin, and rounds out the strong flavor profile of the malted grain mash bill.
“This is the natural evolution of our take on Dutch genever,” says Master Distiller Bruce Joseph. “Our previous releases were unaged. This release takes on added dimension from time spent in once-used Old Potrero Single Malt Rye Whiskey barrels.”
Rated 93 points/Gold Medal (Exceptional) by the Beverage Testing Institute, Barrel-Finished Genevieve Gin is: “Bright gold color. Inviting aromas and flavors of honey drizzled wheat biscuit, tobacco, frankincense, cocoa butter, allspice, and clove with a slightly chewy, crisp, fruity medium body and a hot, thought-provoking, long toasted marshmallow, date nut bread, lemongrass, ginger-peach tea, juniper, cinnamon, and cedar finish. A delectable barrel-aged genever for slow sipping and carefully crafted cocktails.”
Founded in 1993, the now-named Hotaling & Co. is credited with creating the first American craft whiskey (Old Potrero) and gin (Junípero Gin) after Prohibition. Genevieve Gin was first introduced in 2007; the Barrel-Finished expression will reflect the Anchor Distilling Company name until new bottles and packaging are introduced later this year.
