Brewers’ Pale Ale Galaxy Launches at Anchor Brewing Company

Anchor Brewing Company launches Brewers’ Pale Ale Galaxy Hop Blend, an exceptionally bright and quaffable beer brimming with tropical hop flavor. Brewers’ Pale Ale is Anchor’s Brewers’ Pale Ale Galaxy Hop Blendevolving hop series brewed by brewers, for brewers. And now, Anchor is proud to release the third rendition of Brewers’ Pale Ale with the highly sought-after Galaxy hop.

Grown only in a specific region of Australia, the Galaxy hop overflows with flavors and aromatics of clean citrus, passionfruit and peach. Because of its unique and inviting flavor profile, the Galaxy hop is in high demand worldwide, causing the variety to be scarce to come by.

Brewers’ Pale Ale Galaxy Hop Blend (5.3% ABV) is a crisp, easy-drinking pale ale with accentuated tropical fruit aromatics due to the Galaxy hop’s cosmic amount of essential oils – the highest percentage in the industry. The first version of Brewers’ Pale Ale highlighted the unique Nelson Sauvin hop from New Zealand, while the second iteration used the Citra hop from Washington state. In the third adaptation of Brewers’ Pale Ale, Anchor brewers returned to the Southern Hemisphere, the only place where the Galaxy hop is grown. Anchor’s team of brewers will continue to experiment with their favorite hop varieties in the Brewers’ Pale Ale series. The malt, alcohol, bitterness and brewing process stay consistent, but each new blend showcases flavors and aromatics that are unique to the selected hop varietal.

“This series is an excellent showcase of the brewers’ favorite hops. At Anchor, we’re inclined to a killer everyday pale ale that can reveal a variety of unique hop blends. The result is the evolving blend of Brewers’ Pale Ale,” says Anchor Brewmaster Scott Ungermann. “By using the Galaxy hop in this iteration, we salute Anchor’s commitment to innovation and inclusion. We turn to the voice of our community for feedback on our constant experiments. The Galaxy hop was used in an experimental beer offered at Anchor Public Taps, our pilot brewery and bar. Our guests couldn’t get enough of this blend, so we used it as a foundation for this official release.”

A supporting cast of hops adds to this brew’s unmistakable flavor: Ekuanot, Calypso and Cascade. “Cascade hops are a good base hop. We’ve been using this hop since the birth of Liberty Ale® in 1975,” said Ungermann. Calypso helps accentuate the tropical notes, while Ekuanot adds a hint of herbal earthiness to the flavor profile.”

Brewers’ Pale Ale is brewed with 2-row pale, red wheat and pilsner malt. The Galaxy hop blend pours a bright golden straw color with a creamy white head and nice lacing. Not filtered to intense clarity, it has an intentional slight haziness. It finishes fairly dry with a nice balanced drinkability, making it a beer to enjoy any time of the day. The third rendition of Brewers’ Pale Ale pairs perfectly with ceviche with citrus, lime and fig chicken and risotto with seared scallops.

“Brewers’ Pale Ale fits right in the middle of the Anchor portfolio, surrounded by a number of remarkable beers,” said Ungermann. “Forty-four years ago, Anchor brewers crafted the first American IPA after prohibition. Liberty Ale® stands on its own as the revolutionary forerunner of contemporary IPAs and pale ales. Now, we’re presenting a modern take on the American Pale Ale. From the beer that started a revolution in 1975 to Brewers’ Pale Ale, with its evolving hop blend, Anchor continues to be at the forefront of innovations in pale ale.”

A starry, galactic scene of the Milky Way hugs the packaging on this release. Highlighting the care that the brewers poured into Brewers’ Pale Ale, the label design is a hand-drawn illustration showcasing the brewery’s copper brewkettle and the handcrafted techniques of Anchor brewers.
