Two New Expressions Of Egan’s Irish Whiskey

Egan’s Irish Whiskey announces the arrival of two new whiskies: Legacy Reserve IV and Conviction.

Legacy Reserve IV

egan's legacy reserve IV whiskeyThe acclaimed Legacy Reserve series was first inaugurated to honor the long history of the Egan family as some of the foremost bonders and bottlers in the whiskey industry. Each of the entries in the Legacy Reserve Series began as a single malt matured for several years in American bourbon barrels, with every expression completing the aging process in a unique cask style. The fourth and final addition to the Legacy Reserve portfolio was finished in Moscatel de Valencia casks and, like its predecessors, is limited to 1,000 bottles worldwide.

“The Legacy Reserve series is one of the most personally meaningful projects we have ever embarked upon,” said Jonathan Egan, “Each expression is an example of the magic different finishing casks can work on the same exemplary base whiskey. The culmination is Legacy Reserve IV—the ultimate entry in this particular story—perfectly narrating the artistry of our family’s craft.”

Legacy Reserve IV is an 18-year-old Irish single malt which has been matured in American Bourbon barrels and finished in Moscatel de Valencia casks. These barrels, which once held Spanish dessert wine, impart a delicately sweet aroma and a stunning rose gold color to the whiskey. On the nose, one will find a harmonic blend of burnt orange, nougat, and jasmine flowers. The palate delivers apricots and honeysuckle, finishing with a lingering note of black pepper.

The Egan name in whiskey was established by brothers Henry and Patrick Egan in 1852 in Tullamore, County Offaly. For the next 116 years, P. & H. Egan LTD was widely known to select, bottle and bond some of the finest Irish Whiskey to be had. In 2013, the fifth and sixth generations, Maurice and Jonathan Egan, breathed new life into the dormant enterprise and have been crafting expressions that speak to the expertise of generations.

Legacy Reserve IV is a once in a lifetime whiskey,” said John Ralph, CEO of Intrepid Spirits, the brand’s distribution partner. “The balance and depth found in a glass of this exceptional spirit truly allows you to taste history; not only the life of the whiskey, but the generations of experience that came together to forge something so richly evocative.”

Egan’s Irish Whiskey Legacy Reserve IV is expected to sell out quickly due to the extremely limited quantities. It is the last in the widely lauded and awarded series, made for collectors and connoisseurs alike. Legacy Reserve IV is part of the Intrepid Spirits portfolio. The 750ml bottle has a suggested retail price of $200 (46% ABV, 92 Proof).

Conviction will be another benchmark from this well-loved family of exemplary whiskeys. Egan’s Conviction is a blend of single malt and single grain Irish whiskeys, each aged for at least 10 years, married together and finished in XO Cognac casks.

“‘Conviction’ is a word meant to extol the virtues not only of our heritage, but also of what we expect to accomplish in the future,” said Jonathan Egan. “The generations of talented whiskey men and women who came before were known not only for their powerfully held beliefs, but their good works as well. We strive to continue on the path they defined with this exciting bottling.”

Egan’s, now a multi-generational brand, was established by brothers Henry and Patrick Egan in 1852. For the next 116 years P. & H. Egan LTD was widely known to provide some of the finest Irish Whiskey to the world. In 2013 the fifth and sixth generations, Maurice and Jonathan Egan, breathed new life into the dormant enterprise and have since been sourcing and aging expressions that celebrate their lineage.

“Egan’s Irish Whiskey is incredibly proud of its history,” said John Ralph, CEO of Intrepid Spirits, the brand’s distribution partner. “With an eye to the traditions from which we have come, we endeavor with each bottle of Egan’s to create a legacy for the future.”

Finished in XO Cognac barrels, Conviction shows an opulent aroma, defined by floral cereal grains, honey and dried apricot. On the palate one will find new leather, marzipan, and hints of ginger, lifted by zesty citrus. Long and lingering, the finish closes with hints of liquorice and vanilla.

Egan’s Irish Whiskey, including the Conviction expression, is part of the Intrepid Spirits portfolio. The 750ml bottle has a suggested retail price of $100 (46% ABV, 92 Proof).
