Gooderham & Worts Four Grain Canadian Whisky Launches in the US

Gooderham & Worts Four Grain Canadian WhiskyWhisky enthusiasts are invited to take a sip from the past with the arrival of Gooderham & Worts Four Grain Whisky, part of the Corby Northern Border Collection, in April 2019, thanks to U.S. importer, Hotaling & Co. Produced by legendary Master Blender, Dr. Don Livermore, Gooderham & Worts Four Grain Whisky pays homage to the original Toronto Gooderham & Worts distillery founded in 1832 by two successful grain merchants, James Worts and William Gooderham.

One of the oldest whisky names in Canada, Gooderham & Worts started out as a grain milling company but expanded into whisky distillation in 1832. At that time, the typical grains harvested in Canada were corn, rye, barley, wheat, and oats. Gooderham & Worts developed distilling practices, such as double distilling through two columns, that are still used today to produce smooth Canadian whisky. By the year 1900, Gooderham & Worts was the largest distillery in the world. Today, Gooderham & Worts Four Grain Whisky is produced at Hiram Walker and Sons distillery in Windsor, Ontario.

“Gooderham & Worts Four Grain Whisky blends four diverse grains – corn, wheat, barley and rye – all distilled and aged separately before blending,” explains Livermore, who has a MSc and PhD in Brewing and Distilling from Heriot-Watt University, with a focus on wood aging whisky. “In order to highlight the characteristics of each grain and emphasize the woodier component of the blend, we bottle Gooderham & Worts at a higher strength of 44.4% ABV.”

Valued for its bold and balanced layers of flavor, Gooderham & Worts is a premium blend of pot distilled and column distilled rye, wheat, barley and corn. The flavors are both light and heavy – modern, rich and complex. The result is a full, round and smooth spirit with notes of red apples. Followed by fresh bread, barley malts and an oak warm finish with a touch of spice.
