Prohibition is long in the past, but speakeasies are still popping up all over New York City.
The Wall Street Journal recently took a look at a few of the New York bars hidden behind unrelated storefronts like ice cream parlors and coffee shops.
Our own Publisher Art Sutley weighed in on the trend:
“What makes it interesting is the businesses in the front that are still revenue-generating tools that attract a different kind of customer,” said Sutley. “It plays into the real speakeasy experience.”
He continues, “We’re in an Instagram world where people want to take pictures and say that they’re at something secret. I don’t think that trend is over by any means.”
