According to Reuters, Diageo is looking to double its liquor sales in the Middle East and North Africa region over the next five years. Liquor sales for Diageo in the Middle East-North Africa region have grown 16 percent this year, and Gulf Arab countries contributed to 44 percent of the sales.

Diageo, whose brands include Captain Morgan rum, Gordon’s gin, Johnnie Walker whisky and Smirnoff vodka, is looking at new core markets like Abu Dhabi where newly opened hotels and resorts have seen several years of sales growth.

“We strongly believe that the combination of global travel and Middle East and North Africa is set for growth,” said Jane Ewing, managing director for global travel and the Middle East at Diageo.

Diageo has been getting involved in fast-growing developing markets, where it makes around one third of its profit.
