Bacardi Superior Rum announced the winners of the New York Bacardi Legacy of the Cocktail Competition on Sunday, December 12th at the Angel Orensanz Foundation in New York City. Mixologists from all over New York City came together to mix drinks and impress judges with their cocktail skills in order to advance to the national showcase in Miami in February 2011.

The winners of the New York leg of the competition were Rob Fuentevilla of Painkiller, Tomas Delos Reyes of the Standard Hotel, and Bryan Matthys of Compose.

The judges for the competition included Dale DeGroff (aka King Cocktail”, Francesco Lafronconi (Southern Wine and Spirits Director of Mixology) and Tony Abou-Ganim (author of The Modern Mixologist). The judges graded each bartender based on technical skills and presentation, appearance, aroma, balance of flavor, appeal of character, ingenuity and innovation, degree of refreshment and inspiration, and the story behind the recipe. All the mixologists used Bacardi Superior Rum as the base spirit, and the rest was up to them.
