4 Hands Brewing Co. Launches Cans

Last week 4 Hands Brewing Co., located in St. Louis, Missouri, launched their new canning operation, changing the brewery’s entire year-round portfolio from 12 oz. 4-pack bottles to 6-pack cans. This new format will considerably reduce the brewery’s production costs, and those savings will be passed on to consumers.

4 Hands owner Kevin Lemp says the price point for a 6-pack of cans will be between $8.99 and $9.99, whereas the 4-pack of bottles cost consumers around $8.99. The brewery will continue to release their seasonal offerings by the bottle and in the 22-ounce bomber format.

The new canning operation will ramp up 4 Hands’ output, making production almost four times as efficient as their previous bottling operation. Prior to switching over to cans, the brewery could put out about 30 cases of bottles in one hour and about 700 cases in one week. Now, 4 Hands can package 120 cases of cans per hour, and 700 cases each day.

“We can now make and sell a lot more beer, which is what we’ve been trying to do,” Lemp says. “It’s pretty effortless to run the canning line, so we can multitask and accomplish so much more. Everyone is excited about our new cans; it’s a nice fit for our brand and how we are represented.”

4 Hands Brewing Co. is one of many craft breweries making the switch from bottles to cans. Aluminum cans boast several advantages – they cool faster, protect beer from damaging light, and are smaller and more portable than bottles. Cans also provide more room for the brewery’s branding and design.

Look for 4 Hands’ Alter Ego Black IPA and Chocolate Milk Stout to be released in cans by the end of the year.

The 4 Hands Tasting Room is open seven days a week, Monday through Thursday from 3PM-10PM, Friday and Saturday from 12PM-12AM, and Sunday from 12PM-9PM.
