Drambuie TV Spot a Nod to its Rich Heritage

To celebrate the recent acquisition of Drambuie and give a nod to its rich heritage steeped in the glamour of 1960’s New York, William Grant & Sons has unveiled a new Drambuie TV spot which pays homage to the 60’s era of classic cocktails, iconic stars and advertising excellence.

The new Drambuie TV spot entitled “Found Film“ was created by New York agency, Opperman Weiss, who previously worked with the independent family owned distiller on a critically acclaimed spot for Tullamore D.E.W. Irish whiskey entitled ‘The Parting Glass’.

Set in 1960’s New York, the creative tells the tongue in cheek story of a previously unseen 8mm film reel shot behind the scenes at a recording of a new Drambuie jingle. The art of the jingle reached a peak around the late 50’s/ early 60’s, when the US was enjoying an economic boom and creating some of its most iconic advertising work. The spot features a take on a traditional 60’s jingle called ‘Scotch & Honey’ featuring a group of female singers, singing the lines:

Scotch and scotch and scotch and honey,
A little spice you’re in the money
It’s DRAM-BUIE!!!!

Casually sitting at a drum kit and unaware that she is being filmed, a stunning backing singer (played by actress Amy Cook) is seen spinning on a stool, Drambuie in hand, whilst waiting to be called for her next take. As the jingle comes to a close she subconsciously hits the cymbal on the word “Drambuie!” rounding out the classically shot scene.

An original bottle from the 1960’s was used in the commercial to ensure authenticity and give a nod to the beautiful classic packaging that helped make Drambuie famous around the world.
Shane Hoyne, Global Brand Director for Drambuie, said: “We are incredibly excited about our latest addition, Drambuie and look forward to maintaining and building on the success of one of the world’s best known Scotch whisky liquers.”

He continued, “This stunning work from Opperman Weiss, which was created in less than a month, shows the richness of the Drambuie brand and further adds to our enthusiasm for what 2015 holds when we will build on re establishing the credentials of Drambuie and reigniting its Signature Serve ‘ The Rusty Nail’.”

The advert has been developed with 15 and 30 second versions and will run on TV in the US from 17th November and across the holiday period.
