200 Year Itch

Pat O’Brien’s Bar is honored to announce an exciting collaboration with The Historic New Orleans Collection (HNOC) and Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne to commemorate the Battle of New Orleans Bicentennial. The originator of a drink that is synonymous with New Orleans, Pat O’Brien’s embraced the opportunity to be involved with this historical event. “Shortly after initial discussion with the Battle of New Orleans Bicentennial Commission board members, I reached out to HNOC for ideas. I wanted the drink to be as historically accurate as possible,” said Shelly Waguespack, POB President. A recipe book from early 1800’s proved to be a valuable source. Pat O’s bartender Ryan Orgeron tweaked the old recipe to accommodate today’s palette. The end result is a delicious libation that is true to the spirit of drinks enjoyed during the time of the Battle of New Orleans. “We plan to promote the drink and the event at Pat O’Brien’s, in addition to participating in other events in the city. I think this drink will be very popular,” Waguespack said, “the recipe for Battle Crye includes Rye whiskey, Chambord, grenadine, simple syrup and soda water, shaken and served straight up.” There will also be a special commemorative glass that guests will have the opportunity to buy.  Profits from the glass will be donated to the Commission.

“We appreciate Pat O’s support of the Battle of New Orleans Bicentennial with their cleverly named specialty drink, the ‘Battle Crye’. I had a taste at the recent Tourism Summit. I think it will be a hit, particularly on those chilly Louisiana winter evenings,” said Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne.

“Louisiana and New Orleans have a unique culture and history of celebrating important events. One such is through responsible but enjoyable libations. One of our most famous institutions in this area is Pat O’Brien’s. They have marshaled their famous talents to create a commemorative drink forever known as the ‘Battle Crye’ to celebrate the Bicentennial of the Battle of New Orleans. Made from authentic ingredients of 200 years ago, it will surely add to our celebration,” said Henson Moore, Chairman of the Battle of New Orleans Bicentennial Commission.

The Battle of New Orleans was fought on January 8, 1815 and was the last major final battle of the War of 1812.  For more information about celebrations related to the Bicentennial you can visit www.battleofneworleans2015.com; #BONO2015.
