Moving West: Smartmouth Brewing has signed a distribution agreement with Virginia Eagle Distributing, the largest Anheuser-Busch beverage distributor in the state of Virginia. Smartmouth beers will soon be coming to some of their 5,000 on and off-premise accounts, including local grocery and convenience stores, restaurants, clubs and bars. The rollout will start in Charlottesville in mid September.
New Cans Coming: Cowcatcher Milk Stout and Notch 9 Double IPA will soon be available in Smartmouth crafty cans. The new can designs complement the existing three flagship styles but have their own unique charm. Cowcatcher cans are purple and will be ready for distribution by mid-October, with the silver Notch 9 cans following a few weeks later in November.
New Beer Releases:
* I-64 Wet Hop IPA – September 3. Just a short section of I-64 separates Smartmouth from the Albemarle County farm where this brew’s whole-flower Cascade hops were grown. One day they were on a vine; the next, they were in our beer. We timed this brew with the Virginia hop harvest to take advantage of the vibrant aromas and flavors attributed to fresh hops. Note the enhanced floral and grapefruit tones in this brew. ABV 7.2%, IBU 65.
* The Princess Oktoberfest – September 10. Traditionally brewed for the annual celebration of the marriage of Princess Therese to Bavarian Prince Ludwig, our version of Oktoberfest beer is named for the fair and fertile (she birthed 13 royals) Princess Elizabeth, the namesake of the river that courses through our region. This copper lager boasts the perfect union of caramel toffee sweetness with warm toasty maltiness.
* III Smoked Porter – November 7. With a name like Porter, a guy’s destined for beer. Porter’s the fourth man in his family to carry the name. We honor these gentlemen one-by-one with a uniquely crafter porter, and this year’s nod goes to Porter Hardy, III. Brewed with a smoked malt that balances the roastiness attributed to any Porter, this beer is what you’ll want to sip alongside a rack of ribs or smoked polish sausage with spicy mustard.
Third Birthday Street Party: Smartmouth will once again take its party to the street on Saturday, November 7 from 12pm-7pm. There will be live music by Gina Dalmas and the Cowtipping Playboys, several food trucks, the Smoked Porter beer release, new fall merchandise, a commemorative cup, brewery tours and more!
