DR. FRANK’S LAUNCHES FRANK WOMEN SERIES

Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars is putting a spotlight on the women of the Frank family through the release of a single vineyard series of wines. The first wine of the series, named “Eugenia” was released in December 2015. Two additional single vineyard Frank women wines will be released in the coming months. The single vineyard series is the first of its kind dedicated exclusively to women in the Finger Lakes region.

“Eugenia”, named after Dr. Konstantin Frank’s wife, is a 2014 Dry Riesling made from the oldest block of Riesling in the winery’s Keuka Lake estate vineyards. The block is located in one of the steepest parts of the vineyard, which is known for having acidic soil and high shale content. This Dry Riesling is bone dry, with brilliant acidity, elegant minerality and notes of key lime, stone fruits, pineapple and lime zest.

Eugenia Frank was best known by family members for her wonderful palate. She could tell from her incredible sense of smell and taste whether any of Dr. Frank’s wines would be a success in the early days. Perhaps her most meaningful contribution, however, was that she was very influential in encouraging Dr. Konstantin Frank to pursue his PhD in Viticulture. Had it not been for Eugenia, Dr. Frank may never have researched vinifera in cool climates, leading to his subsequent introduction of vinifera to the Finger Lakes.

Now in its fourth generation, Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars continues as New York’s most award-winning winery since 1962. Located on Keuka Lake a few miles north of Hammondsport, Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars has long been associated with the New York wine revolution. Its founder, Dr. Konstantin Frank, helped pioneer the introduction of the European vitis vinifera grapevines in the eastern United States. For his contributions in the American wine industry he was inducted into the Wine Spectator’s “Hall of Fame.”
