Stone, Dogfish Head and Victory Brewers Collaborate
Stone Brewing Co., San Diego, California, is teaming up with Dogfish Head and Victory Brewing Companies, of Delaware and Pennsylvania, respectively, to brew and distribute Saison de BUFF, a 9.6% alc/vol craft beer brewed with parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. This beer will be brewed three times, once at each brewery using the same recipe.
In 2003, brewery owners Greg Koch (Stone), Sam Calagione (Dogfish), and Bill Covaleski (Victory), came together as long-time friends to establish the organization “Brewers United for Freedom of Flavor” – or “BUFF”.
“Back in 2003, when we formed BUFF, a lot of our focus was on gaining quality distribution and fair representation for craft brewers in retail outlets,” Covaleski explains. “Attention from the media was a life-or-death challenge for brewers with inspired beers like ours, as our breweries were relative unknowns to others than the most dedicated beer enthusiasts.”
Over recent years, all three breweries have continued to grow, and the three brewers have gained more of the attention and consumer appreciation they so endeavored to establish. Now the three breweries feel it is the time to reward their fans with a special beer to commemorate the fight, harkening back to the darker, more fettered times of 2003.
The expected release dates for Saison du BUFF are as follows:
- Stone Brewing Co. – Late April 2010
- Victory Brewing Co. – July 2010
- Dogfish Head – August 2010
