Pisces Beverage Corp., Garnerville, New York, has created a new style of flavored vodka which is creating quite a stir in the spirits business.
“We use real produce in Me Oko, not artificial flavorings like the other ‘flavored’ vodkas,” notes cofounder and company president Miyoko Yamakawa. “We are producing a locally-made, 100% natural product and the flavor and aroma really make it stand apart from the rest of the category,” Miyoko says. “It also has none of the usual harshness or ‘burn’ that drinking straight vodka normally produces. It’s very smooth, very drinkable.”
Bottles of Me Oko feature a butterfly motif, which, according to Mo Oko’s website, is an ancient symbol of emergence and renewal, outwardly representing the characteristics that Me Oko vodka offers the consumer.
The formula – developed by Miyoko’s husband, Jiro, who comes from a long line of family farmers and herb specialists – relaxes, helps with digestion and relieves anxiety. With startlingly intense aroma and taste, Me Oko’s ginger and strawberry flavors almost act as liqueurs, and can be used to enhance and or bring a new twist to traditional cocktail recipes.
Check out Me Oko vodka at the New York Bar Show, June 14-15, at Booth # 424, where they will introduce four new flavors: Apple, Lemon-Lime, Watermelon and Jalapeño.
