Highland Park’s Old Bottle Looks Like New

This month, Highland Park Single Malt Scotch Whisky is launching its oldest bottle to date-a 50 year old Scotch Whisky in a bottle designed by Scottish jewelry designer Maeve Gillies.

To celebrate, Johnny Iuzzini of Jean-Georges and Top Chef Just Desserts put together a three course dessert menu to pair with the Highland Park 25, 30, and 40 years old, and Richard Boccato of Dutch Kills in New York made Scotch cocktails for the remarkable occasion.

Only 275 bottles have been produced and only five are available in the United States this year, the edition is set to become an exclusive collectors’ item. Each bottle is unique and encased hand-crafted ornate sterling silver. The front of each bottle features a single piece of circular Orkney sandstone in recognition of the famous St Magnus Cathedral. Inside the bottle is a sterling silver replica of the St Magnus rose window which is revealed over time as the whisky is enjoyed.

Highland Park 50 years old is bottled at 44.8 percent alcohol by volume, and is sold at a recommended retail price of $17,500.
