Even as rum is enjoying a renaissance of appreciation among spirit enthusiasts, a group of notable rum explorers are organizing a special adventure through the Eastern Caribbean to visit the celebrated terroir of cane spirits November 12-19, 2011.

Robert and Robin Burr are publishers of an award-winning guide to rum and are hosts of the annual Miami Rum Renaissance Festival. They’re inviting their friends from around the world to join them on a special luxury cruise ship itinerary to some of the Caribbean’s most interesting islands to study, savor and collect authentic spirits of the region.

“They call it the Rum Renaissance Caribbean Cruise.

“We’re excited to be partnering with Celebrity Cruises on our island-hopping rum-theme adventure aboard the Celebrity Summit in mid-November. This is the most efficient, compelling and fascinating way to truly appreciate great rums of the Caribbean while enjoying a world-class cruising experience,” said Robert Burr.

The ship will depart from San Juan Puerto Rico on Saturday, November 12 for a week of great adventure. The first stop on Monday is Barbados, long famous for their unique style of rum often preferred by sailors and adventurers. The group plans to visit the modern Foursquare Distillery as well as the newly renovated St. Nicholas Abbey Plantation where small batch artisanal rums are being created for rum collectors. Additional stops include the Cockspur Rum Beach House and Mount Gay Rum’s welcome center to gain a greater appreciation of these genuine, iconic brands of Bajan rum.

After an exciting day of rum distilleries and tastings on the island, passengers will return to the Celebrity Summit in the early evening for a program of island cocktails featuring the best rums of the region and fresh, local ingredients. A sumptuous dinner follows, with Celebrity showing off their award-winning cuisine and service. Finally, guests will gather on the deck for a moonlit interlude enjoying the finest luxury sipping rums as a nightcap before retiring to their suites for a restful sleep.

Each day, they do it all over again on a different island.

Tuesday, the ship visits St. Lucia with a tour of St. Lucia Distillers, home of Chairman’s Reserve, Castrie’s Peanut Rum Creme and Admiral Rodney naval rum. Rum cruisers will also go hunting for rum bargains, enjoying fine cocktails before a lavish dinner, finishing off the evening with sipping rums again.
