Big Beam Buyout

Suntory of Japan has agreed to buy the maker of Jim Beam, Maker’s Mark, Laphroaig Scotch and other brands, for $13.6 billion.

According to a report on, privately held Japanese whiskey giant Suntory has agreed to acquire Beam, one of the United States’ most recognizable purveyors of bourbon and other spirits, such as Jim Beam and Maker’s Mark bourbon, Teacher’s and Laphroaig Scotch whiskies, and others, for a reported sum of $13.6 billion.
