125 Years at The Bar Room

The winter chill has descended upon New York and the city’s inhabitants are flocking indoors. Manhattan bars and restaurants have always provided refuge for the wandering tourists, neighborhood regulars and the nightlife trend-seekers. As many eateries in this great city often perish among skyrocketing rent prices and the ever-changing tastes of the demanding restaurant-goer, what is left as their legacy?

For the original Harvey’s Chelsea that served Manhattan’s businessmen and affluent city dwellers from 1889-1991, the restaurant’s rich history lives on in The Upper-East side bistro, The Bar Room. Restaurant mogul and principal owner of Il Cantinori, Periyali and Bar Six, Steve Tzolis, recognized the beautiful refinement in the cherished neighborhood mainstay that had served its loyal following for over a century. Waiting for the prime opportunity to re-introduce a revived reflection of the historic space, Tzolis preserved the original Anheuser-Busch bar which now serves as the grand welcoming piece in the New American bistro on East 60th. Shaking and stirring premium pre-prohibition cocktails over the 32-foot mahogany masterpiece with brass accents and beveled glass, The Bar Room continues to serve up its stream of libations with a deep appreciation of the time-honored classics.

In celebration of the 125th birthday of this grand piece of New York history, The Bar Room will be hosting a celebration on December 1st in partnership with the bar’s creators, Anheuser-Busch. Guests will enjoy an evening of feast and merriment with the most luxurious brews of the brand’s portfolio, including the Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. Debuted on Black Friday, the annually released brew is the holy grail of imperial stouts containing an unrivaled richness with notes of caramel, vanilla and smoke. Served with hors d’oeuvres designed to balance the full-bodied flavors, guests will experience the beauty of bar history with a taste of the top libations enjoyed today.
