CORONA TO SPONSOR MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Constellation Brands, the third largest beer company in the U.S., has announced that Corona Extra will serve as presenting sponsor and official beer of the upcoming Gennady Golovkin versus David Lemieux middleweight championship title unification bout on Saturday, October 17th at Madison Square Garden in New York. The fight, which will be broadcast on HBO Pay-Per-View, pits two middleweight champions with aggressive, power-punching styles against each other and promises to be one of the most exciting boxing matches of the year.

Golovkin is the reigning WBA, IBO and interim WBC middleweight champion, with a 33-0 record that includes 30 knockouts.  Lemieux is the reigning IBF middleweight champion with a 34-2 record that includes 31 knockouts. The fight recently broke a presale record with over 15,000 tickets sold in less than a week.

“Corona Extra is proud to serve as presenting sponsor and official beer of this highly anticipated fight,” says John Alvarado, Vice President, Brand Marketing – Corona Extra. “Both Golovkin and Lemieux have dominated opponents in recent fights, which sets the stage for an action-packed battle between two of the very best boxing has to offer. It’s only fitting that the number one brand associated with boxing, Corona Extra, serve as presenting sponsor of this fight.”

Corona Extra is the best-selling imported beer brand in the U.S. and has a long-standing association with the sport of boxing.  Sales trends for Corona Extra have accelerated over the past four years and the brand continues to gain in popularity, largely driven by the growth of the Hispanic and multi-cultural population in the U.S., as well as the changing taste preferences and purchasing habits of Millennials, who prefer high-quality beer brands with more flavor.
