William Grant & Sons, the 125 year old, independent family-owned distiller celebrated the 125th anniversary of Young’s Market Company, one of the largest wine & spirits distributors in the United States, at a private event on May 7th in Newport Beach, CA. To commemorate the shared milestone of these two family owned independent companies, William Grant & Sons crafted a limited edition bottle of Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch Whisky exclusively for The Young’s Market Company that is being presented to the company’s employees.

“As a family owned independent company, we felt it was extremely important to celebrate and commemorate this momentous event for our long-time partner and fellow family owned independent company,” said Simon Hunt of William Grant & Sons. “Our companies have each experienced a great deal of change and growth over the course of 125 years but have always stayed true to our vision and values. Our commitment to innovative approach, long term perspective and an entrepreneurial mindset has allowed us to successfully grow our businesses, and working together we’ve experienced record growth for our portfolio of premium spirits brands. Young’s is a valued partner and on behalf of everyone at William Grant & Sons, I congratulate them on 125 years of success.”

In August 2012, representatives from Young’s Market Company visited the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown, Scotland as guests of William Grant & Sons to develop this one-of-a-kind Single Malt.  Working closely with Brian Kinsman Glenfiddich’s Malt Master, and Mitch Bechard, Glenfiddich Brand Ambassador for West Coast USA, the Young’s Market Company team selected casks of aged Glenfiddich to create this exclusive bottling, a combination of American Oak, representing the home of their organization and European Oak to represent the home of William Grant & Sons.  The result: a limited edition Glenfiddich Single Malt offering exclusively created for the employees of Young’s Market Company. The Young’s team will be presented the special edition on Monday, May 13.

These two family companies, steeped in tradition and shared values including quality and entrepreneurship, remain fiercely independent to this day. Despite countless challenges, including two World Wars, The Great Depression and Prohibition, both companies have been able to adapt to the current environment while never losing sight of their respective long-term goals.  William Grant established the Glenfiddich distillery with the goal of creating the best dram in the valley and the first drops of spirit flowed in 1887, however it wasn’t until 1963 that the brand was first exported to the United States, establishing the Single Malt Scotch whisky category in the U.S. and ultimately becoming the world’s most awarded and best selling Single Malt Scotch in the world.

It was this shared determination and long-term vision that, in 1940, allowed The Young’s Market Company to transition from a retail business to a sole focus on the distribution of wine and spirits – growing from a relatively small local distributor servicing Southern California to the fourth largest distributor in the United States.
