SIDNEY FRANK AND SOUTHERN WINE & SPIRITS UNITE

Sidney Frank Importing Company, Inc., a leader in ultra- premium spirits, and Southern Wine & Spirits of Illinois, a division of the nation’s leading distributor of fine wines and spirits, have joined forces to promote the “We Don’t Serve Teens” campaign in the State of Illinois.

This important education campaign reminds parents and others that serving alcohol to teens is unsafe, illegal and irresponsible. The campaign is based on research showing that most teens who drink obtain alcohol from “social sources” such as friends, siblings or parents.

Originally launched by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer watchdog agency, the “We Don’t Serve Teens” campaign has been run in markets across the country to call attention to the dangers of underage drinking, and the shared responsibility of families, community groups and the business community to work together to stop it. This year, the industry component of the campaign takes on a new theme: “We Don’t Serve Teens… and You Shouldn’t Either.”

The program in Illinois will kick off at the Chicago Elite Classic, an all-star exhibition basketball event hosted by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and two of the Chicago Public Schools elite basketball programs, on December 7th. The Mayor is scheduled to speak about the importance of “We Don’t Serve Teens” to all attendees at the Classic.

The social responsibility campaign will also include extensive advertising throughout December and January as well as the distribution of point-of-sale materials, internet advertising, customer education materials and other resources in on- and off-premise establishments in the Illinois area. These materials will provide education to consumers and guidance to parents about the issue of underage drinking.

“We are proud to actively support the ‘We Don’t Serve Teens” Campaign’ alongside our wonderful partners to promote safe, legal and responsible consumption of beverage alcohol,” says John Frank, Vice Chairman of Sidney Frank Importing Company, Inc.

“The latest government research shows that over 90% of underage drinkers do not purchase alcohol, but get it from family and friends or ask someone else to buy it for them. We at Southern Wine & Spirits don’t serve teens and you shouldn’t either,” adds Will Conniff, Executive Vice President-General Manager of Southern Wine & Spirits of Illinois, Kentucky and Minnesota.
