Samuel Adams Brings Summertime to Snow-ridden Cities

According to PR Newswire, after a snow-and-ice filled winter with record-breaking low temperatures and months’ worth of snow piled up in many parts of the country, the brewers at Samuel Adams are helping the nation’s hardest-hit cities thaw out by offering their “Summer Ale Special Delivery” to the town halls of the ten snowiest cities.

The town deemed the worst hit will enjoy the first-ever “Summer in a Bottle” party hosted by Samuel Adams brewer Dean Gianocostas. Samuel Adams tapped Accuweather, the world’s leading multimedia weather information source, to analyze data from winter 2010-2011 to determine which 10 cities were hit the hardest by snow this season. The data shows that these ten cities caught the brunt of the weather, based on snowfall totals in comparison to each location’s average annual amount. These towns were hit with 600 inches of snow; with the majority of these cities accumulating more than twice as much as usual.

1) Columbia, MO, 51.6 inches, 346% more snow than average

2) Paducah, KY, 27.9 inches, 271% more snow than average

3) Tulsa, OK, 26.1 inches, 256% more snow than average

4) Newark, NJ, 66.0 inches, 239% more snow than average

5) Bridgeport, CT, 60.1 inches, 229% more snow than average

6) New York, NY, 61.0 inches, 221% more snow than average

7) Philadelphia, PA, 44.0 inches, 218% more snow than average

8) Youngstown, OH, 114.7 inches, 215% more snow than average

9) Williston, ND, 87.6 inches, 209% more snow than average

10) Boston, MA, 79.1 inches, 192% more snow than average

“This has been one of the worst winters in a while, and I’m definitely ready for summer and sun,” said Samuel Adams Founder and Brewer Jim Koch. “So we thought, ‘why not take Samuel Adams Summer Ale on the road and treat our drinkers who suffered through countless hours of shoveling with an early sip of summer?’ We tapped AccuWeather to determine which towns were hit hardest this winter, and we’re happy to help people in Columbia, Mo. thaw out and kick back with Summer Ale. It might not entirely make up for a frigid winter, but we hope it gives them something to look forward to. Summer is on the way!”

To officially treat Columbia to an early sip of summer, Samuel Adams brewer Dean Gianocostas will take the city by storm and host the “Summer in a Bottle” party on May 3, 2011, complete with warm-weather activities including a beach-themed photo backdrop, summer-inspired music and grilling for drinkers thirsting for summer. Tickets will be given away to Columbia residents through local promotions.
