Philly Beer Week, March 6-15, 2009
Self-proclaimed “America’s Best Beer-Drinking City, Philadelphia, PA, will host its second Philly Beer Week, from March 6-15, complete with over 50 attending brewers and more than 600 scheduled events.
The weeklong occasion will kick off at 7 pm on Friday, March 6, at the Comcast Center with the ‘Opening Tap’, an award ceremony created by local beer writers to honor over 25 of Philadelphia’s regional breweries. “The Opening Tap is a one-of-a-kind event featuring our local, breweries and their beers, as well as the men and women who create them,” says Don Russell, who along with Tom Peters and Bruce Nichols, founded Philly Beer Week. Other scheduled events include beer runs and bike rides, the Philly Craft Beer Fest, and the Philly Real Ale Invitational.
The organizers of Philly Beer Week have teamed up with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) to offer attendees the ‘Sip Safely with SEPTA’, an unlimited, all-day bus/trolley/rail pass for $9.00 per day, in order to offer participants an alternative to driving after indulging in the events.
