4th Annual NY Brewfest: Tickets On Sale Now

ny_brewfest_logo.jpgThe New York State Brewers Association and Heartland Brewery recently announced that tickets are now on sale for the 4th Annual NY BREWFEST, New York City’s premier beer festival, taking place Saturday, June 19 on Governors Island. As part of the festivities, attendees will get to sample over 300 craft beers from 100 New York State, East Coast, U.S., and international breweries—while enjoying live music from New York state bands such as Horseshoe Lounge Playboys, Mikey Powell, Alexis P. Suter, and more.

There will be a wide array of great local food options at this year’s Brewfest, including: pizza from Sullivan Street Bakery, burgers from HB Burger (made with Pat La Frieda beef), and local ice cream from the Van Leeuwen Ice Cream truck. Tickets cost $55 (which includes Brewfest water taxi transport to and from Governors Island) and can be purchased at nybrewfest.com or any of Heartland Brewery’s seven New York City locations.

The festival will draw beer, food, and music lovers—as well as those eager to explore historic Governors Island. To ensure entry, prospective attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets early; the first three Brewfests sold out. “Connoisseurs’ Session” passes ($75 per person), which allow early entrance to event (2:30 pm) and access to a number of limited-edition beers, are also available. Transportation to (and from) NY Brewfest will be quick, easy, and scenic: attendees can either take special Brewfest water taxis running continuously between Governors Island and Pier 11 in Manhattan (a six-minute ride), Brooklyn, and New Jersey; or they can take the free Governors Island ferry to and from Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn.

David Katleski, President of the NY State Brewers Association, says: “As the region’s most popular beer festival, NY Brewfest has outgrown its previous home at South Street Seaport in Manhattan. We’re excited to have a new venue—Governors Island—that will allow even more beer lovers to experience great regional brews, food, and music in a country-meets-city setting. It’s going to be a beer lover’s field day—literally.”

In addition to the many breweries, food offerings, and live bands, this year’s Brewfest will feature free beer seminars (featuring tastings of limited-edition beers) led by master brewers from New York State. A portion of the proceeds from NY Brewfest will benefit the New York State Brewers Association, a not-for-profit corporation designed to protect and promote the state’s breweries, microbreweries, brewpubs and affiliated businesses, and to educate the public about them.

The New York State Brewers Association is a member of Pride of New York and the New York State Farm Bureau. Members of the Farm Bureau will be onhand at Brewfest to promote the Empire State’s renowned hops; in fact, Madison County was once the largest hop-growing region in the world, and with the help of the Farm Bureau and Brewers Association, the state is returning to its former hop-growing glory.

City Harvest is also a beneficiary of NY Brewfest 2010. NY Brewfest’s co-sponsor, Heartland Brewery, is a collection of seven Manhattan brewpubs.
