macchu_pisco.jpgMacchuPisco LLC has the distinct honor to sponsor the celebration of the Claudia Llosa’s highly acclaimed film, La Teta Asustada (also known as Milk of Sorrow) during the Oscar presentation this upcoming Sunday, March 7, 2010. Milk of Sorrow has been nominated as one of the 5 finalists in the race for Best Foreign Language Film for this year’s 82nd Academy Awards.

Beginning with the first stroll of the red carpet at 6 pm EST, MacchuPisco LLC will be hosting a party and reception in Beverly Hills to celebrate Llosa’s singular achievement. Milk of Sorrow is the first Peruvian film to ever receive the honor of an Oscar nomination, a particularly inspiring achievement as 65 films were originally in contention to be one of the final 5 films to be selected for the Best Foreign Language Film category.

The evening-long celebration, which will have in attendance Peruvian luminaries and members of the diplomatic corp, will feature Peruvian hors d’oeuvres as well as various MacchuPisco cocktails. We will toast with a MacchuPisco Sour the announcement of the Best Foreign Language Film category as the Milk of Sorrow will have brought Peru the distinction of being represented at the most rarefied of cinema ceremonies around the world.

MacchuPisco LLC is presided by a team of two Peruvian sisters, Melanie and Lizzie Asher, who have long supported not only the Peruvian community’s triumphs in the United States but also have participated in honoring efforts to preserve inalienable human rights to justice, equality and freedom. Milk of Sorrow was inspired by the work of Kimberly Theidon, a Harvard anthropologist and, as two Harvard graduates themselves, the Asher sisters could not be more proud to help bring the the forefront all the attention this film merits.

Lizzie Asher, the President of MacchuPisco LLC, will be in attendance in Los Angeles this coming weekend for the festivities to represent the company and our other national pride, Pisco.
