Birko Receives Patent for Beer Keg Cleaning Method

“Our method is unique because it relies on an acid and detergent alone instead of caustic for cleaning kegs,” said Dana Johnson, Birko’s brewery and produce specialist, and the inventor of the new cleaning method. “This actually produces cleaner kegs by more effectively removing beerstone, a problematic and tenacious scale often found inside kegs.”
“What’s more, the acid and detergent cleaning solution can be recycled, which makes it very economical in addition to being more effective than caustic,” Johnson said.
