IVY CITY GIN WINS GOLD AND SILVER, RAISES MONEY

One Eight Distilling is proud to announce they have raised over $2,500 for Habitat for Humanity through sale of Ivy City Gin. In addition to raising money for the community, Ivy City Gin has been recognized as a leader in the field, winning both a gold medal from renowned blog The Gin is In and a silver medal at the New York International Spirits Competition (NYISC).

In 2015, One Eight Distilling agreed to donate one dollar of every bottle of Ivy City Gin sold to benefit Habitat for Humanity and the gin’s namesake neighborhood. The money raised will go directly toward building affordable homes in Ivy City. Habitat for Humanity is currently in the final stages of completing 11 houses in the Ivy City area.

In the NYISC, Ivy City Gin beat out several national gin brands to secure a silver medal, including Hendricks. Nearly 20 trade experts conducted blind tastings of more than 500 spirits from over 35 different countries ranking Ivy City Gin highly. “This year’s significant increase in submissions is a clear sign that the industry truly recognizes and appreciates NYISC’s overall philosophy of judging for real sales impact,” said Adam Levy, founder of the NYISC.

Ivy City Gin also received a gold medal from The Gin Is In, a blog with reviews of more than 200 gins from around the world.  Head writer, Aaron Knoll gave the Ivy City Gin 4.5 out of 5 stars. “Ivy City Gin is everything right with gin today,” said Knoll.

One Eight Distilling has agreed to continue using Ivy City Gin to raise funds in the New Year, setting the goal for 2016 even higher. “Our partnership with the DC Habitat for Humanity affiliate means a great deal to us; we have enjoyed working in and contributing to this neighborhood very much,” said founder Sandy Wood. “The awards are just icing on the cake.”

“Community engagement is the backbone of our organization, and we couldn’t be more grateful to partner with a business that is dedicated to giving back in their own neighborhood,” said Habitat for Humanity of DC President and CEO Susanna Slater. “One Eight Distilling shares our commitment to Ivy City and their support helps us continue to keep homeownership affordable for DC families. We’re thrilled to continue our partnership in the year to come!”
