HYDE, THE FIRST WHISKEY OF ITS KIND

Hibernia Distillers, a Irish craft distillery located in West Cork, will debut their first release, HYDE Irish Whisky 1 in the US market beginning October 1, 2015. HYDE is a presidential quality Irish whiskey, distilled in small batches and in honor of the inaugural appointment of Ireland’s very first president, Douglas Hyde on 25th June 1938. In addition to the brand’s upcoming US market launch, HYDE is also available in the Irish, German, French, Dutch, Scandinavian, Swiss, South African, New Zealand and UK markets.

Established in 2014 by brothers and West Cork natives Alan and Conor Hyde, Hibernia Distillers’ debut release draws on a centuries old Irish whiskey making tradition. HYDE No. 1 is a limited edition 10-year single malt Irish whiskey made from 100% malted Irish barley and distilled in a traditional copper pot still to produce a complex yet classically smooth single malt. HYDE Irish Whiskey is non-chill filtered and aged for 10 years in flame charred, first fill, American oak bourbon barrels and finished in toasted Olosoro Sherry casks from Cadiz, Spain for a complex and uniquely smooth full palate, then bottled at 46% ABV. Hibernia Distillers uses only local, West Cork spring water which imparts the region’s unique character to each of 5,000 hand numbered bottles which will retail for $69.99 (MSRP) and are packaged in a custom wooden gift box.

HYDE Irish Whisky is also reviving a West Cork tradition, as it is the first ten-year-old, sherry cask-finished, Irish whiskey to be aged in Skibbereen in over a century. Hibernia Distillers ships their casks ‘wet,’ in the case of HYDE No. 1 quarter filled with sherry and the regions near sub-tropic micro-climate allows casks can be matured out doors and the high percentage of atmospheric water vapor creates unique evaporation, absorption and wood interaction conditions which work in harmony to give HYDE a distinctly aromatic complexity.

Hibernia Distillers’ also plans to release a second whiskey, HYDE No. 2 which is set to be released in the US Market in November 2015. HYDE No. 2 will be a 10-year-old rum -cask finished whiskey, rich in subtle spicy tones, non chill filtered, with 46% ABV. The distillery also has plans for a third whiskey, HYDE No. 3, a 6 year old single grain sherry –finish set for spring 2016 US release.

HYDE No. 1 will be available via select online retailers (Binny’s, Spec’s TX) beginning early October 2015.
