No More Obama Beer for Brooklyn, NY Craft Brewery

Sixpoint Craft Ales, Brooklyn, New York, was recently ordered by the Federal Government to remove its “Hop Obama” from its line of craft beers in an effort to control use of the president’s image.

According to the New York Post, Shane Welch, owner of Sixpoint, is perplexed by the order given his brewery by the Tax and Trade Bureau, which has laws against using someone’s name on an alcoholic product without their endorsement. He said, “The crazy thing is, the federal government, it approved this brand when many people didn’t know who Barack Obama was. Once he got elected, the tried to put a stop to it.”

A White House representative stated that its lawyers are doing what they can to develop a policy that will protect the president’s image, but that they are unaware of the order to stop selling Hop Obama. Sixpoint is not sure if they will resell the once popular brew under another name in the future.
