Crown Imports’ and its Northern California distributors raised more than $120,000 for The V Foundation for Cancer Research at Corona’s first annual “Jimmy V Golf Classic” at the historic Presidio golf course in San Francisco.  Held on April 9th, and part of Corona’s “Help Find a Cure” for cancer program, golfers teed-off under beautiful blue skies.  Soon after the invitations were posted, the event was filled with more than 100 golfers and even more guests for the post-golf dinner and auction.

Crown Imports has made a long-term commitment to partner with The V Foundation to raise awareness and funds to help find a cure for cancer.  Each year in March, the “Find a Cure” donation campaign encourages consumers to join Corona Extra, Corona Light and The V Foundation in the fight against cancer by making charitable contributions at participating bars, restaurants and store locations, or by visiting the donation page at www.jimmyv.org/findacure <http://www.jimmyv.org/findacure> . The V Foundation awards 100 percent of its proceeds towards cancer research.

To complement these efforts, Crown’s Northern California sales team organized a golf outing for Crown wholesalers, key retailers, and business partners in the region.  Fundraising efforts were bolstered with a silent and live auction filled with fantastic prize packages donated by Crown Imports and friends of Crown.  The outing was a rousing success, clearly indicating the huge commitment and big hearts of the people involved.

“I am overwhelmed by the support of everyone here today and all associated with this first annual event,” said Eddie Merideth, vice president and general manager of Crown’s Northern California sales territory.  “Like so many others, my family has been touched by this terrible disease…today was an opportunity for me and my colleagues at Crown to make a difference by raising funds for cancer research.”

Nick Valvano, CEO of The V Foundation and brother of the late Jim Valvano added, “I want to thank Crown Imports, Eddie and his entire team for their commitment and hard work.  They clearly made this an incredible event for Crown and The V Foundation.”

The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. Since 1993, The Foundation has raised more than $120 million to fund cancer research grants nationwide. It awards 100 percent of all direct cash donations and net proceeds of events directly to cancer research and related programs. Administrative and fundraising expenses are paid by the Foundation’s endowment. The Foundation awards grants through a competitive awards process strictly supervised by a Scientific Advisory Board.
