Chang Beer, the lager from Thailand, was crowned Asia’s Best Premium Lager at the 2011 World Beer Awards. This latest accolade for Chang comes as the brand posts an impressive year, reporting a 32 percent year-on-year growth in its export markets.

The global awards competition selects the best internationally recognized beer styles from around the world.

Regional style heats are held in Europe, the USA and Asia. This year, 500 brands from more than 37 countries competed to be named the best in their category. Chang Beer was judged on flavor, appearance, aroma, balance, character and complexity. In a blind judging it was commended for its “golden” color, “lemony notes” and “crisp maltiness all the way through.” It was also praised for being “refreshing” and having a “nice balance.”

As the market for Asian premium lager continues to grow, Chang Beer expects gains in world markets through 2012. The brand attributes its success to its commitment to quality and traditional Thai heritage. Pat Graney, President of International Beverage USA, commented, “Chang Beer has long been the authentic—and favorite—beer of Thailand, and this award extends that standing around the world.”

Chang boasts a collection of awards, most recently being a gold medal from the Beverage Testing Institute and its third consecutive gold medal at the 2010 Monde Selection.
