BÄRENJÄGER BÄRTENDER Competition: Calling all New York Bartenders to Fight for their Honey

Bärenjäger Honey Liqueur is creating buzz with news of its first-ever bartender competition. Professional and amateur bartenders from New York are invited to submit cocktails using their creativity and all-natural Bärenjäger Honey Liqueur through August 25, 2009.
Four nationally acclaimed judges – mixologist and spirits aficionado Allen Katz of Southern Wine & Spirits, Spirits and Cocktails Geek Gary Regan of ArdentSpirits.com, Director of the Worldwide Bar Database, and author of The Joy of Mixology and the industry’s leading lady, Julie Reiner of Clover Club and Flatiron Lounge and one of the foremost spirits trade writers, Jack Robertiello – will then choose the top recipes to move on to the final round.barenjager2.jpg
All finalists will be invited to a private event for media and industry heavyweights on September 15th, where they will make their cocktails for the last round of judging. The grand prize winner will receive an all-expense paid trip for two to Oktoberfest 2009 in Munich, Germany. Bärenjäger, a honey liqueur, was first introduced during the 15th century as an aid for hunters to lure bears from their dwellings.
Made in Germany, this 70 proof vodka-based honey liqueur is made with premium quality honey from the Mexican province of Yucatan. Each 750ml bottle contains 225 grams of natural honey and a mixture of botanicals resulting in a subtly sweet, spicy and herb edged taste profile.
“I’ve just returned from judging an international cocktail competition in London, so I know how high the standards are within the 21st-century bartending community, and I’m really excited to see the New York cocktailians in action,” says judge Gary Regan. “We are looking for taste, appearance, creativity and overall delivery.”
To enter the competition, visit www.barenjagerhoney.com and complete the online registration form by August 25, 2009. The official rules and regulations can also be found there.
