According to The Sydney Morning Herald, a Slovenian winemaker has discovered a new technique for storing and preserving wine; by placing the bottles 30 meters below sea level, at 12 to 13 degrees celcius. Ivan Simonic, the man behind this unique technique, put 600 bottles of sparkling wine in this deep sea wine cellar six months ago.

Because of the constant movement of the sea, the usual techniques for maturing sparkling wine are not necessary, he said.

The sparkling wine, named Poseidon after the Greek god of the sea, is priced at 100 euros ($139) a bottle, and it if sells well, Simonic plans to build a purpose-built deep sea wine cellar.
