The Bordeaux Wine Council had released an application for smart phones called “Smart Bordeaux” which will offer consumers comprehensive information about Bordeaux wines. The application will be available for download from the Apple iTunes Store on December 20, 2010.
Users can use Smart Bordeaux while shopping for wine by either photographing the wine label, barcode, or QR code, or by searching specific chateau names. After searching for their specific wine, users will have access to a range of information including appellation, ratings, history of the estate or brand, characteristics of the soils, winemaking process, tasting notes, photos and videos.
The initial version is only available for iPhone users. The information can also be translated into 13 different languages. Blackberry, Android and Windows Mobile users will have access to Smart Bordeaux coming in early 2011. Updates to look forward to in 2011 will also be the ability to search by voice recognition.
