Here at Bar Business, one of the questions we get asked the most—after “Do you think my bar make it past its first year??” of course—is probably “How can I get drunk at the same time I’m also helping others?” Well, we now have an answer for you, and just in time for Natiional Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
501(c)3 charity Chemo Comfort has assembled 22 bars across New York City and Westchester for their fourth annual Cocktails for Comfort fundraiser running from October 7-16, 2016. Big-name bars such as Employees Only, Art Bar, The Tippler, The Cellar Bar at Bryant Park Hotel, Brooklyn’s Huckleberry Bar and Featherweight, The Astor Room in Queens and Westchester’s Vintage 1891 Kitchen have all created signature cocktails specifically for the event, with proceeds going to support the charity’s programs.
The all volunteer charity, founded in 2003 by past NY1 “‘New Yorker of the Week” Anne Marie Paolucci, aims to lessen pain and increase quality of life for cancer patients undergoing brutal chemotherapy regimens. “Starting chemotherapy is a frightening experience. We are saying to patients, ‘Here is a box of tools put together by someone who’s been there. Know that you are not alone and these tools will help you take care of yourself during this difficult journey,’” said Paolucci, herself a two-time breast cancer survivor.
