World of Beer Taps Rare Pilsner Urquell for Finale

Making a rare U.S. appearance, the Czech-brewed, unfiltered, unpasteurized Pilsner Urquell will be air-shipped direct and tapped at World of Beer (WOB) taverns nationwide, the first time that this version of the golden lager has been available on this scale in America.

Typically only available in the Czech Republic, the unfiltered, unpasteurized Pilsner Urquell is being express-shipped to the U.S. for peak flavor and freshness. The journey to WOB’s neighborhood taverns begins with the kegs filled direct from the cellars at the Plzen brewery. The beer is conveyed in chilled vans and kept cold and fresh throughout its intercontinental flight, as well as on its final trek to each tavern.

On Thursday, March 12 guests at every WOB tavern can sample the flavor of the original pilsner that inspired every pilsner brewed since 1842 when the brewery was founded. Only 136 kegs of unfiltered, unpasteurized Pilsner Urquell will make the special journey from Plzen to WOB taverns. For those who haven’t had the wonderful experience of tasting it, Pilsner Urquell’s original lager is full-bodied and slightly cloudy. The fresh, cask-conditioned lager tastes much different – and even more special – than the popular pilsner style typically on tap. Check your local WOB tavern’s Facebook page for exact times.

Pilsner fans can also enter for a chance to win a trip to Plzen, Czech Republic, home of the Pilsner Urquell brewery and birthplace of the world’s first pilsner. Check with your server for details or visit http://worldofbeer.com/Journey-Through-Pilsners to learn more about how to enter.

“Our ‘Journey through Pilsners’ event is the first of many one-of-a-kind craft beer experiences we have in store for our guests in 2015,” said World of Beer CEO Paul Avery. “No other beer style in the world has the pedigree and staying power of pilsner. From the Czech traditions that inspired the brew to its modern-day interpretations by local craft breweries, our pilsner journey will take our guests to places unexpected.”

Celebrating the popularity of craft beer and its culture, WOB rotates taps daily so guests will discover something new and unique on every visit. WOB pairs its craft brews with the franchise’s signature “Tavern Fare” menu, featuring a variety of comfort foods and traditional bar offerings with a contemporary spin, such as Giant Bavarian Pretzels, a Guinness “Brat” Slider and the Chimay Burger topped with cheese made at the Chimay brewery in Belgium.

WOB’s specially trained servers will be on hand to guide guests through the “Journey through Pilsner” experience and enhance their appreciation of the timeless beer. WOB servers are knowledgeable beer enthusiasts passionate about helping guests learn more about the beers and the stories behind them.
