GLENMORANGIE PARTNERS WITH MARCUS SAMUELSSON

Glenmorangie Single Malt Scotch Whisky announces a collaboration with world-renowned, James Beard award-winning Chef Marcus Samuelsson that seeks to redefine the relationship between great cuisine and Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Known as a passionate pioneer of his craft and dedicated to going to extra lengths to create unnecessarily well-made cuisine, Chef Samuelsson will partner with Glenmorangie to showcase their likeminded commitment to excellence and innovation in their respective fields.
 
Glenmorangie reflects this ethos in its pioneering approach to creating whisky – the first use of American white oak casks, the first to introduce extra maturation to add greater layers of complexity – while Samuelsson mirrors this in his application of classic French culinary training to the culinary styles of modern American cuisine. Through Chef Samuelsson’s Dishes & Drams pairings, Glenmorangie seeks to be the first to reveal Single Malt Scotch Whisky’s potential as the ultimate food-friendly spirit.
 
Throughout the year-long partnership, Chef Samuelsson, who has received international acclaim for his restaurants and whisky industry pioneer Glenmorangie’s Director of Distilling and Whisky Creation, Dr. Bill Lumsden, will explore ways to bring together the culinary and whisky worlds in the form of innovative pairings. The duo will combine culinary prowess and expert palates along with their shared passion for challenging tradition.
 
“In both our industries there is a constant tension between tried-and-true traditional approaches and the exploration of the unknown or untested,” says Dr. Lumsden, who was recently named Master Distiller of the Year at the 2016 International Whisky Competition. “Chef Samuelsson and Glenmorangie are aligned in our approach to this oppositional pull – both are committed to the traditions of our crafts while simultaneously welcoming and fostering the spirit of innovation.”
 
Dishes & Drams
Samuelsson has created 10 exclusive “Dishes & Drams” culinary and whisky recipe pairings for Glenmorangie, developed through a process of extensive and immersive taste-testing, and drawing inspiration from the flavors and traditions of his childhood in Sweden, his apprenticeship in France and his experiences in the American south and beyond. Similarly, Dr. Lumsden, draws inspiration from travelling the world, in a quest for discovering the best woods and exotic casks, to provide Glenmorangie whiskies with new intriguing flavor and unique characteristics.
 
Inspired by his own curiosity to discover new flavor profiles and techniques, Samuelsson takes further inspiration from Glenmorangie’s history and expertise in the craft to create the series of exclusively crafted pairings and recipes, which will be debuted at Food & Wine’s Classic in Aspen this June. Chef Samuelsson’s Dishes & Drams recipes include a punch as well as hors d’oeuvres, entrées and desserts specifically paired with different Glenmorangie expressions. The recipes and pairings not only marry flavors of the dishes with each whisky but also bring to life new and exciting flavor notes, thereby introducing consumers to a new side of the bold and unmatched spirit.
