THE GREENE TURTLE OPENS IN DEEP CREEK, MD

The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille announced today that it has opened a new restaurant here at 75 Visitors Center Drive. The family-friendly sports-themed casual dining restaurant encompasses more than 8,500 square feet and sits at the base of Wisp Resort, a year-round attraction located at the northern end of Deep Creek Lake, where many from Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh travel to enjoy boating, fishing, skiing and family vacations.

While brandishing trademark features such as professional, college, high school and local youth sports memorabilia lining the walls and dozens of overhead big-screen TVs broadcasting local and national sports, the new restaurant also boasts a customized design reflecting the traditional look and feel of mountain resorts. Special features include two large fireplaces and a “Great Lodge” room that flows out to a deck and outside bar offering spectacular views of the surrounding lake and mountain setting.

“This is a beautiful restaurant and another exciting milestone on the road to our expansion goals,” says Bob Barry, President/CEO of The Greene Turtle. “As we celebrate our 40th anniversary this year, we continue to prove that our concept has broad appeal both demographically and geographically, and the flexibility to fit comfortably into new communities while sustaining that appeal with new menu offerings, loyalty programs and community efforts. We are delighted to bring The Greene Turtle to Deep Creek to serve people who already know us from Washington and Baltimore, and to introduce our concept to people from other markets like Pittsburgh where we plan to open in the future.”

The Deep Creek resort area sits fewer than 10 miles east of Maryland’s border with West Virginia, where The Greene Turtle opened a location in Morgantown, its first in that state, a year ago. Coupled with the announcement earlier this year that another franchise group will be developing six restaurants in Central Pennsylvania, these locations give The Greene Turtle a strategic vantage point from which to expand into Western Pennsylvania, Ohio and Kentucky, where it is seeking strategic franchise partners to develop multiple units.

“The new Greene Turtle in Deep Creek and the opening of our Morgantown restaurant last year are doubly advantageous for our expansion efforts,” said Tom Finn, Vice President of Franchising for the chain. “These restaurants are on two arteries leading into Pittsburgh, where the abundance of media and professional, amateur, college and youth sports programs make it a natural fit for our concept.”

The new restaurant is open daily at 11 a.m. and remains open until 11 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, until midnight Thursday through Saturday, and until 10 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, visit www.thegreeneturtle.com.

First opened in Ocean City, Md., in 1976, The Greene Turtle today includes 43 locations in Maryland, Delaware, New York, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C., with more than 50 additional locations scheduled to be developed under existing development agreements. Combining comfort food, a casual atmosphere and a sports bar theme marked by big screen TVs broadcasting local and national events, “The Turtle” is a popular year-round destination where families, friends and fans of all ages feel at home.
